  • Respect all coaches, officials, teammates, and yourselves.
  • Be on time for all games, practices, team functions – 10 minute rule.  If there is any reason a player should be late/absent, the player must tell the coach in advance.
  • Unexcused absences will result in suspension of play for the next game. Attendance is kept at all practices and games and is crucial to developing and enhancing skills.
  • Being late for practices/games will not be tolerated. A player who is late to practice without an excuse will be assigned extra conditioning. Being late to a game may keep a player from starting that game.

  • Always be prepared for anything. Bring proper gear for rain or shine. Always bring tennis shoes. Have the appropriate clothing according to the weather. Players who are not prepared may result with extra conditioning at the next practice.

  • If you make a mistake, let your teammates pick you up and have the next play.
  • Speech = nic e, neutral, or not at all on the field and off. Practice good sportsmanship!
  • You are teammates, so it is your responsibility to treat each other with respect.

PIKE LIBERAL ARTS SCHOOL
SOFTBALL PHILOSOPHY

Playing time
The best nine players will play. By the best - this includes but is not limited to, the best work ethic, the best attitude, the best teammates, and the best players that have worked hard in order to get better and succeed athletically and mentally. Coach Park will not discuss playing time with parents at any point. If an athlete is concerned about playing time, she should contact Coach Park and discuss it face-to-face. This teaches the athletes how to communicate effectively.

Effort
Players are expected to give 110% effort in between the white lines on and off the field. They should make an honest effort in every drill throughout practice, games, and in the classroom. This will help players improve their game and learn to work hard in order to succeed.

Adherence to team rules
If for some reason, the players do not abide by the rules and expectations, they will see consequences. For example, they may have extra conditioning after practice. In many circumstances, the whole team will be included. Since we play as a team, we operate as a team.

Improvement and performance
Player evaluation will not be based solely on the fact of whether the team wins or loses. Players learn when they make a mistake; correct  ions and improvements happen when players make mistakes so they can succeed in the future. All players will have one-on-one meetings to set goals, discuss methods of improvement, and a final one-on-one meeting to evaluate how well they performed their set goal individually. Team classroom practices for goal-setting, mental preparation classroom sessions, and other teambuilding and team bonding events will be scheduled throughout the season.

Self-Motivation and Leadership
Coaches will provide the proper techniques and motivation to succeed. As players, they have to “want” to succeed. They have to “want it” and be self-motivated outside of practice to make themselves better. All players are asked to serve a leadership role. This can be leading by example, leading by encouraging, leading by voice, leading by work ethic, and many more.

Nutrition
All players should eat regularly, drink plenty of water, and take a daily vitamin. Staying healthy is a key component of playing sports. Lots of calories will be burned by practicing and conditioning daily, so it is essential that players eat and drink properly during the season. If there are any circumstances where the player shows signs of an eating disorder, coaches will meet with the player and contact the parent/guardian.
